An autumn wedding at Plas Maenan

I have been photographing weddings at Plas Maenan country house for almost 20 years, and I absolutely love working there. It’s nestled in the hillside overlooking the Conwy valley. The views are just stunning, so it’s a real treat when I am booked to photograph an autumn wedding at Plas Maenan.

Hannah and Alan chose an autumn wedding at Plas Maenan, and luckily that’s my favourite time of year. The colours and the vibe are always on point. Their wedding would have been a year ago, but they decided to go travelling for a year before ‘settling down’ and being grown-ups, and that blew the wedding budget!

Making the most of the bridal preparation suite

A recent addition to Plas Maenan is the suite used by the bridal party for getting ready. Light, airy, and with big mirrors, it’s perfect for the bride and bridesmaids to get their hair and makeup done away from prying eyes.

Hannah and her ‘maids were on good form, with lots of laughing and smiles. No sign of any nerves from anyone either! Their daughter added the cute factor to the day, and you can see the bond between her and her parents. They are a perfect little family.

Alan and the boys got ready downstairs, and the mood was just great. Again, no sign of any pre wedding nerves. It was a really chilled start to the day.

An indoor wedding ceremony at Plas Maenan

As it was late autumn it was just too risky planning an outdoor wedding ceremony at Plas Maenan, so the ceremony happened in the beautiful Garden Room.

After the usual mingling and family group photos it was time to go for a walk with Hannah and Alan. The sun decided to make an appearance, which is always very much appreciated. It ended up being a lovely warm afternoon in the Conwy valley. Bride and groom portraits don’t have to be hard work at all. I hardly ever actually ‘pose’ a couple. It’s normally as simple as going for a walk and having a chat along the way. As long as you look happy and you’re into each other the pictures almost take themselves. With Hannah and Alan it was so easy to photograph them. They are clearly made for each other and are very comfortable in each others company.

Kicking off the evening off at Plas Maenan with sparklers

When I first arrived in the morning the first thing Hannah said to me was that she had been on Pintrest, and saying she had seen one picture she would like (cue me shuddering inside). I needn’t have worried though because it was just some fun with sparklers- easy peasy. The trickiest part is getting all the guests to light their sparklers at roughly the same time, so we don’t have some finished and some starting. Obviously we managed and got some cracking photos for them.

Their first dance went down a storm as it was an upbeat dance track, which got everyone on the dancefloor with them. The dancefloor was busy for the rest of the evening.
