A New Year’s Eve wedding at Caer Rhun Hall

After an extremely busy year of photographing weddings here in North Wales I normally like to take December off, to recharge, relax, and reflect, but when Melissa and Tom enquired and told me about their plans for a New Year’s Eve wedding at Caer Rhun Hall I couldn’t resist. It just sounded so much fun, and right in my wish list for weddings. It couldn’t live up to the hype, could it?

The day started off at lunchtime, with a 3pm ceremony time, so we had plenty of time to relax into the vibe of the day.

A wedding day ‘first look’ at Caer Rhun Hall

As it is deep into winter, and with a 3pm ceremony, we knew daylight was going to disappear very quickly (or even be non-existent) after the ceremony, so we came up with the idea of Melissa and Tom doing a ‘first look’ and some bride and groom portrait BEFORE their wedding ceremony. Luckily the notorious North Wales weather played nicely and gave us perfect conditions for this moment.

We only needed 10-15 minutes for this part of their day, which included some family photographs too. It really doesn’t need to take hours and hours.

Their ceremony was in the main hall, and was dressed for Christmas, with a beautifully decorated tree right where Melissa and Tom were stood. Add that to the chandeliers and that really made it an outstanding wedding ceremony. Immediately afterwards we created some beautiful family group portraits in front of the Christmas tree. I couldn’t think of a better backdrop for a New Year’s Eve wedding.

Dinner and games in the marquee at Caer Rhun Hall

In the grounds of Caer Rhun Hall is their permanent marquee. Nicely decorated and heated, it made the perfect place for dinner and speeches.

Once the formalities were over it was time some fun and games. Melissa had made a wedding cake for each table, and each cake was a different flavour. There was an open invitation for all the guests to cut their cakes and then go and find their favourite flavour on another table. This was an amazing way of getting to know people you may not have had a chance to otherwise.

There was a very animated game of Pictionary where someone from each table had to run up to the front to get the clue and then draw it for their table. Cue much running about and hilarity.

Sparklers, dancing, and piping in the New Year at Caer Rhun Hall

On the way back to the Hall there was a kind of impromptu sparkler run, just to keep the energy levels up. We found a great area of the hall where there is a sunken lounge area. It made a wonderful spot for the bridal party and groomsmen to chill and get some epic pictures.

As I suspected, the dancing was excellent, with almost no down-time at all. New Year’s Eve definitely brings the party vibes.

Did Melissa and Tom’s New Year’s Eve wedding at Caer Rhun Hall live up to the hype? Yes, yes it did!

Thanks for having me along, guys, I had a blast!
